Thirteen years after the demise of COSSAN, the idea of an umbrella organization resurged with a new thinking and a new name. The move to bring the idea back to life began on September 3, 2015 through a process initiated, yet again, by the former president of NASSI, Dr. Albert Olajide Akinyemi with Mrs Rose D. Gyar of Global Centre for Human Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development (GLOCHEED), mobilizing BMO leaderships for an inaugural meeting to consider the desirability and possibility of setting up the MSME FORUM...

The Official Inauguration

MSME FORUM

The official inauguration of the MSME FORUM came up on October 6, 2022, at the pavilion of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC, Maitama, Abuja. The umbrella body for all MSME Associations in Nigeria was inaugurated by the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, GCON. He was represented by Dr. Akin Soetan, a special assistant in the office of the former Vice President.

The official inauguration of the MSME FORUM came up on October 6, 2022, at the pavilion of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC, Maitama, Abuja. OUR SERVICES

  • Pursue a comprehensive development agenda that frontally and sustainably address under-performance in general and the myriads of challenges that had bedeviled the sector in its fragmented states in particular.

  • Operate a website that showcases all the over 41 million MSMEs in Nigeria, what they do, where they are and what they need to create millions of jobs annually.

  • Create a platform for warehousing and harmonizing the common interests of the BMOs, and presenting uniformly and mutually accepted procedures for carrying out their activities.

MEMBERSHIP

  • Associations of all MSME operators in Nigeria

    Associations of MSME operators in Nigeria, otherwise referred to as MSME BMOs, with over 41 million operators under them, constitute the bulk of the MSME FORUM's membership strength. They are drawn from all sectors – mining, agriculture, manufacturing, trading, cottage, banking and services.

  • Corporate/Institutional Membership

    Corporate/Institutional Membership made up of relevant ministries, departments and agencies, and development finance institutions that share similar aspirations with the organization and can impact on its mission and vision.

  • Women Cooperatives Membership

    Women Cooperatives Membership made up of women involved in agricultural activities, trade and services.

  • Honorary Membership

    Honorary Membership – made up of successful men and women from the academia and the industries for their positive impacts in the economic and industrial development of the country.

Rationale for Establishing the

MSME FORUM

For a long time, the fortunes of the MSME sector regarded as the engine of economic growth have been left to the vagaries and discordant voices of its various BMOs with no proper coordination and effective synergy needed to tackle the issues and challenges confronting the sector. These issues and challenges include lack of access to finance, inappropriate entrepreneurial skills, lack of institutional capacities, inadequate access to workplace and technology…

  1. One stop shop to engage/harness information for planning towards the realization of their specific mandates.
  2. Pool of data for research in support of the economic development of the country.
  3. Platform for coordinated approaches to assisting MSMEs to contribute optimally to sustained economic growth and development.
  1. As more informal businesses migrate into formal, members' activities would boost robust banking habits and eventually get integrated into formal financial system for an enduring financial relationship and inclusion.

  3. A reasonable financial flow into the capital market as a result of huge business inflow and outflow in the system as businesses grow and are formalized.
