The Role of SMEDAN

The inaugural meeting where the idea of an umbrella body for all MSME BMOs in Nigeria was muted, came up on Wednesday, September 3, 2015 at the instance of some veteran MSME operators, who at different times, had piloted the affairs of the BMOs in attendance. Believing the initiative was an idea whose time has come, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, made its Training Room available for subsequent meetings of the BMOs that culminated in the registration of Forum by the Corporate Affairs Commission on September 7, 2018.

Underscoring SMEDAN’s recognition of Forum as a significant partner in the whole scheme of MSME development, the Agency invited the umbrella body as a resource person to present a paper on COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF OTHER MSME DEVELOPING AGENCIES at its Board Retreat held in July 2019 in Epe, Lagos In his presentation, the National President of Forum, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Gusau, MNI, MFR, had posited that partnering the Forum by SMEDAN was indeed a win-win situation because it would allow for better public and private sector involvement in policy formulation, implementation and feedback, adding that it would also afford SMEDAN the opportunity to focus more on its core mandate of serving as a catalyst for MSME sub-sector development in Nigeria.
